It's not clear to me whether the request is in regard to the tests at the basic skills level or tests for high level competitive skaters about which I know precisely nothing. In any case, at the risk of creating a moderate size waste of /usr/spool/news disk space, here are the USFSA basic skills test requirements for the areas of basic skating, freestyle, figures, and dance. Hope it's useful. -Steve **** Basic 1: A. Sit on the ice and get up from a kneeling position. B. Skate forward across the rink without falling. C. Glide forward on two feet. D. Glide forward on two feet and dip (bend knees). E. Forward two foot swizzles. F. Snowplow stop (one or two feet). G. Two foot hop while moving (optional). Basic 2: A. Backward skating on two feet. B. Backward two foot glide. C. Backward two foot swizzles. D. Forward one foot glide. E. Two foot turn from forward to backward. F. Forward one foot swizzle (pumping) on a circle, both directions. G. Backward one foot snowplow stop, R & L. Basic 3: A. Forward stroking showing correct use of blade and neat footwork. B. Backward one foot swizzles (pumping) on a circle, both directions. C. Forward to backward two foot turn on a circle, both directions. D. Continuous forward two foot sways (slalom). E. One foot snowplow stop, R & L. F. Backward to forward two foot turn on a circle, both directions (turning to outside of circle). Basic 4: A. Forward outside edge, R & L. B. Forward inside edge, R & L. C. Forward crossovers, both directions. D. Backward one foot glide, R & L. E. Forward outside three turn, R & L. Basic 5: A. Back outside edge, R & L. B. Back inside edge, R & L. C. Back crossovers, both directions. D. Backward outside three turn, R & L. E. Hockey stop. Basic 6: A. Forward inside open mohawk, R & L. B. Forward inside three turn, R & L. C. T-stop, R & L. D. Backward inside three turn, R & L. Combination moves: E. Forward crossovers (two) into forward inside mohawk, cross behind, step into back crossover (one) and step to forward inside edge; repeat in opposite direction. F. Combination of any three moves from first six Basic Skills Tests, skater's choice. **** Freestyle 1: A. Bunny hop, either foot. B. Forward inside pivot. C. Two-foot spin (minimum 3 revolutions). D. Waltz jump. E. Footwork: back outside three turn, forward inside mohawk, and repeat. F. Straight line spiral, either foot. G. Shoot the duck (optional). Freestyle 2: A. Toe loop jump. B. Mazurka. C. Back outside pivot. D. Two-foot spin, pick up one foot (minimum 2 revolutions). E. Half flip. F. Lunge. G. Forward outside spiral. Freestyle 3: A. Backward spiral. B. Half lutz. C. Salchow. D. Two-foot spin, pick up one foot (back spin); inside three turn entry optional. E. One-foot spin. F. Footwork: back outside three turn, forward inside mohawk into back crossovers. Freestyle 4: A. Jump combination: waltz jump/toe loop. B. Jump combination: Salchow/toe loop. C. Three consecutive half flips. D. Forward inside spiral. E. Straight line sequence: any three moves from Basic or Freestyle levels, skater's choice. F. Sit spin (minimum 3 revolutions). Freestyle 5: A. Camel spin (minimum 3 revolutions). B. Loop jump. C. Falling leaf jump. D. Ballet jump. E. Backward outside spiral. F. Flip jump. G. Split or stag jump. H. Footwork to include forward three turns, R & L inside and outside - also to include mohawks. I. Combination spin of skater's choice with no change of foot. J. Waltz jump/loop jump. K. Compulsories: one minute, no music, using one spin, one jump, 1/2 jump using connecting footwork. Freestyle 6: A. Back scratch spin (minimum 4 revolutions). B. Layback spin (minimum 4 revolutions). C. Flying sit spin (minimum 4 revolutions). D. Change foot spin. E. Variation of a forward spiral. F. Lutz jump. G. 1/2 Axel or Bell jump. H. Axel. I. Waltz jump - 1/2 loop - Salchow. J. Footwork to include mohawks, choctaws, brackets, bauer, or spread eagle. K. One and one-half minute music program to include two spins, two jumps, connecting steps with one combination jump or spin. Must also use field moves, i.e., spirals, spread eagles, bauers, etc. **** Figure 1: A. Consecutive forward outside edges. B. Consecutive forward inside edges. C. Consecutive back outside edges. D. Consecutive back inside edges. E. Skater must demonstrate knowledge of how patches are laid out in a rink, and of the long and short axes. F. Skater must be able to draw a straight line with the heel of the blade. Figure 2: A. Describe and draw on ice the center of an outside eight. B. Know the size of the figure circle and be able to pace it out on ice. C. Draw on ice the outside eight. D. Demonstrate the forward outside circle eight. Figure 3: A. Draw and describe an inside eight center. B. Demonstrate the correct inside eight push off. C. Demonstrate a forward inside eight. D. Waltz eight exercise, starting RFO (i.e., RFO3, LBO, RFO). E. Diagram the threes to center, center on ice. E. Demonstrate the threes to center. **** Note: The basic skills book includes diagrams of each dance. Dance 1 (Dutch Waltz): A. Forward outside swing rolls to counts of 4 and 6. B. Consecutive forward progressives to counts of 4 and 6. C. Description and demonstration of Kilian and Waltz holds. D. Corner steps in Dutch Waltz (LFO/RFI - 3 beats each). E. Demonstrate Dutch Waltz pattern with music. Dance 2 (Canasta Tango): A. Consecutive forward chasse sequences to counts of 4 and 6. B. Forward slide chasses to count of 4, on a circle, both directions (a minimum of four slide chasses). C. Forward outside cross rolls (cross strokes). D. Description and demonstration of reverse Kilian position. E. Demonstrate Canasta Tango pattern with music. Dance 3 (Rhythm Blues): A. Consecutive inside progressives to counts of 4. B. Consecutive inside swing rolls to counts of 4. C. Demonstration of flair in step 5 of the Rhythm Blues. D. Cross behind steps on end pattern of the Rhythm Blues. E. Demonstrate Rhythm Blues pattern with music. Dance 4 (Cha Cha) A. Inside chasse with wide step. B. Four-beat edge with free leg expression (step 6) from the Cha Cha. C. Slalom motion. D. Demonstration of Kilian position. E. End pattern of Cha Cha step sequences with crosses. F. Demonstrate Cha Cha pattern with music. Dance 5 (Swing Dance) A. Swing rolls to count of 4. B.
