Kaeru takes a rest break. The lower section of the trail is a long
hop up the hill in the sun.
The steep section of the trail ends in a meadow filled with potentilla
bushes with their yellow flowers.
More wildflowers growing in the meadow. In addition to flowers, this meadow
also had one of the biggest anthills I've ever seen!
The trail skirts the edge of the meadow, with the back side of Pike's Peak
coming into view through the trees ahead.
Another view of Pike's Peak, across the top of the meadow.
Upstream, the meadow closes into a narrower valley, and the falls come into
view ahead.
At the base of the falls.
Kaeru poses on the rocks.
Splashing water on the lower part of the falls.
Closeup of the upper part of the falls. This is a fairly small creek, and the
falls are probably more impressive when there is still snowmelt feeding them
instead of in the late summer.
Time out for a little snack on the rocks at the base of the falls
before heading back down the trail.
